Sangam Victoria is a non-profit community based organisation founded by a group of Fiji Indian migrants who are descendants of Indian indentured laborers brought in by the British Colonial Government to establish sugarcane plantations in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s.

20th September 1992 – Interim Committee was established to spearhead the formation of the body and a draft constitution was prepared for interested people.

14th February 1993 – Draft Constitution was presented at the General Meeting and was accepted with minor changes.

30th April 1993 – The constitution was registered as an incorporated body with the Victorian Government, marking the birth of FSAV

28th – 30th November 2003 – FSAV celebrated its 10th Year Anniversary.

30th April 2013 – FSAV reached it 20th Year Anniversary

The Association has the following set objectives as outlined in the constitution;

  • To promote the legitimate interests and welfare of Members and their associates in the development of the community as a whole;
  • To promote South Indian arts and culture within the Australia context;
  • To facilitate the perception of its Members in Australian community and to promote mutual respect through social, cultural, political and economic interaction;
  • To promote understanding and co-operation with other associations with similar objectives;
  • To acquire by purchase or otherwise land, buildings or premises in the interests of members; and
  • To do all such things and perform such acts as the Executive Committee of the Association considers necessary or desirable in the attainment and furtherance of the Objects of the Association.
