Membership
Membership of the Association shall consist of individuals and corporations who subscribe to the Objects of the Association and who agree to abide by the Rules and Regulations from time to time prescribed by the Association.
Ordinary Members
Former residents of Fiji of South Indian origin over the age of 18 years, or associated to former residents of Fiji of South Indian origin by marriage or by lineage are eligible to become Ordinary Members.
Life Members
The Association may grant life Membership to any Member who is recommended by the Committee at an Annual General Meeting. Any person who has been an Ordinary Member for an unbroken period of 5 years or more may be granted Life Membership subject to the Member paying $200.00 and the Member being recommended by the Committee at an Annual General Meeting. A Life Member shall have the same rights and privileges as an Ordinary Member but shall be exempt from the payment of annual subscription fees.
Honorary Members
The Committee by resolution may invite individuals who have provided meritorious service to the Association to become Honorary Members of the Association. Honorary Members shall not be required to meet any subscription to the Association and shall not be entitled to vote or hold office within the Association.
Corporate Members
Corporations, whether incorporation or established in Australia or otherwise, may apply to become Corporate Members of the Association.
Patrons
Distinguished individuals may be appointed as Patrons to the Association at the recommendation of the Committee and approved at the Annual General Meeting of the members of the Association. A Patron shall cease to hold such position upon resignation or by special resolution of the members in a General Meeting.
Application for Membership
A person who is nominated and approved for membership under the Rules is eligible to become a Member of the Association on payment of the prescribed annual subscription.
A person who is not a Member at the time of the founding of the Association (or who was a Member at the time but has since ceased to be a Member shall not be a admitted to membership unless:
the person is nominated as provided under sub-clause 5.3;and
the person’s nomination as a Member is approved by the Committee.
A nomination of a person for membership of the Association shall be;
Made in writing in the form set out in Appendix 1 to this Constitution; and
Lodged with the Secretary of the Association accompanied by the prescribed subscription fee.
The Secretary shall refer the application to the Committee for consideration at the next meeting of the Association. The Secretary shall notify the approved Member in writing and enter the nominee’s name in the Register of Members. The Secretary shall also notify rejected applications in writing and refund all monies paid. The Committee shall not be bound to provide any reason for its decision to approve or reject the nomination.
Membership of the Association in not transferable.
Annual Subscription
The Annual Subscription shall be twenty five ($25.00) dollars per Member. There shall be no Entrance fee.
The Annual Subscription shall be payable yearly, becoming due on 1 Jan for the current financial year.
A Member shall be deemed to be in arrears of Annual Subscription and/or other dues if he or she has not paid the sums becoming due within twelve (12) calendar months of the due date.
A Member in arrears of Annuals Subscription shall not be entitled to vote and may have other sanctions applied against him or her as the Committee deems fit.
